Chepstow Plant International are seeking to employ a Lead Driver to join the company's existing team based at a client quarry site in North Somerset. The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate competence and hold recognised qualifications in the operation of excavators, wheeled loading shovels, articulated and rigid dump trucks. They should have effective communication skills and be able to work with support staff, clients and organise the team’s work.
The role is a good stepping stone for an operator to develop supervisory skills, with the potential to advance to a supervisor/manager in the future.
Job Roles / Duties:
- To be able to operate the range of machines on site : Excavators, Wheeled Loading shovels, Articulated Dump trucks, Rigid dump trucks, to cover breaks, holidays, and sickness.
- To ensure that the operators fulfil the Company and Client requirements on site.
- To regularly input basic site data into a spreadsheet on a laptop and to check and collate timesheets for the site.
- To collaborate with the client representatives and other Chepstow Plant departments
- To present safety and other short briefings to the team and keeping the daily defects sheet system up to date.
- To carry out all work in line with the company's core health, safety and environmental policies and safe working practices.
Requirements:
- Recognised qualifications and competency in operating Excavators, Wheeled Loading shovels, Articulated dump trucks.
- 5+ years' relevant experience in working in a rock quarry environment with an understanding of quarry related risks and practical control measures.
- Being able to manage the work of others to achieve set objectives.
- Effective communication skills both verbally, by phone and 2-way radio
- Basic computer literacy for emails, excel spreadsheet inputting.
Desirable but not essential:
- Recognised qualifications and competency in operating Rigid dump trucks
- Trained in operating an excavator on a rock pad in a quarry.
- First Aid qualified.
- SPA Safety Passport holder
