Power Station

Power Station

For over 25 years, Chepstow Plant International have been a supply partner for the UK’s largest coal power station. Initially, this collaboration began with just a selection of loading shovels which only partially met Drax’s material handling requirements. As time progressed, both companies forged a synergistic partnership, resulting in Chepstow Plant International providing all the necessary equipment the power plant’s material handling requirements.

Some of the work Chepstow Plant International provides is:

  • Reclamation from stock for delivery to generators
  • Loading and hauling of bio-mass products
  • Campaign extraction of site lagoons
  • Loading of trains

Naturally, this contract is a high-dependency application, as the power station operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To be able to meet demand, Chepstow Plant International invested in Caterpillar 657G scrapers and Caterpillar D8 and D9 bulldozers for the control of PFA stocks.

A power station is a facility that generates electricity from a variety of sources, including renewable sources such as biomass and non-renewable sources such as coal, and nuclear power. Chepstow has the experience and mobile plant equipment for the handling of these materials to ensure the functioning of a modern energy supply. To ensure that a power station can generate the necessary electricity for the UK, it must be equipped with the right equipment, maintained regularly, and supplied with the required resources.

Power station equipment is designed to convert the energy source into useable electricity. This typically involves turbines, boilers, generators and other components. In the case of biomass, the energy source is usually wood chips, crop waste, or other organic material. This energy is converted into electricity via a process known as combustion. To ensure a power station is operating at maximum efficiency, it should be equipped with the proper equipment with a managed fleet and logistics. Chepstow Plant has worked with Power Stations to meet these demands from sourcing the required mobile plant items, through to delivery and application.

The logistics of keeping a power station powered are essential, which is why the machinery Chepstow Plant utilise ensure the facility has a reliable supply of fuel, whether it is coal, natural gas, or biomass. Power stations are essential to our modern society, providing electricity to homes, businesses, and other institutions.
